is the symbol used in Macintosh System Software to represent the Escape (esc) key. Unusually, this symbol is not used on the Escape key itself. The design can be interpreted as showing an exit in a cycle or loop, thus reflecting its purpose to suspend program execution – although this is something that is more commonly found in PC environments, where Escape is used to pause a game, for example.
