68kMLA Wiki:Community Portal/Updates
- Update: Should be working, but alert me of any bugs!
My pack of edits was related to fixing the tabs for removing Macgeek417's convention. There were lots of red tabs on the hardware, machine and software lists.

I ported the PageTabs template from Wikipedia for personal needs. Feel free to use it. It consists of one "top" template, two customizable "middle" templates and one "bottom" template (but unlike userboxes the main template takes care of them), plus two /docs and one [semi-]demo, however it wasn't hard to port it.

The title text on some project pages (Community Portal, Help, Policy, About, Forum Rules & IRC Guidelines) has been updated to SVGs rather than GIFs. This will give better support for resizing the text if it is ever required. The library used to create the PNG versions of the SVG files has also been changed from ImageMagick to rsvg since it gives better looking output.

We could use more help converting existing stats to the new format.
I have added a new custom namespace for 68kMLA related articles. I decided that it's probably best to keep 68kMLA_Wiki: for articles specific to the Wiki – such as editing policy, etc – rather than re-assign it. 68kMLA: has been created for articles which pertain to the 68kMLA as a whole – forum rules, articles about the MLA, etc.
Furthermore, I've changed the way these updates are stored. They are now at 68kMLA Wiki:Community Portal/Updates and are included into the main Community Portal page. To only keep the newest four entries I have masked off the rest with <noinclude> tags. When adding an entry to this page, be sure to move the opening <noinclude> up one entry. To keep the layout nice it should come on the same line as the signature. If someone can think of a way to do this automatically, please feel free to suggest it!

The latest update is that there has been a dearth of updates recently. We need your contributions! There's a lot more to the 68k Mac experience than just hardware. More articles about software and peripherals would be great!
File uploads are currently disabled as I'm having a few problem with the uploads directory permissions since the upgrade to 1.12.0. I should have it sorted soon...

Due to some recent (and rather bizarre) edits by unregistered members, we have decided to require members to register before allowing edits.
For those of you that just can't get enough of this wiki (and you know who you are), there are now a few templates for you to spruce up your user page with. Take a look at mine if you don't understand what to do.

The specs templates were updated yesterday, and some fields changed names to be more consistent. If an article you edited appeared to spontaneously lose some information, this is why. It's still there, the parameter names just need to be changed slightly. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'm working on updating articles myself as I find time.

There is a now a new template for the computer infobox: Template:Computer specs infobox. The formatting of the template provided on that page ties in nicely with the formatting of the one provided on Template:Computer specs full so you can simply copy and paste the top two "sections" of parameters between them. I've modified the Macintosh II article using the new templates as an example.
I have created a new template for the full specifications sections. It's available here. I have added a lot of description to the template page about how to use it, so I won't repeat that here.
I have also enabled file uploads, and we now have some startup chimes and death chimes. There is a section in the full specs template to add the correct startup and shutdown sounds for each machine. I have also created templates to automagically add download/play links for files that you upload: .mp3s, .zips, .sits, .imgs, .smis and .dmgs. Usage information is on each of the pages. PHP's file upload limit is fixed at 2 MiB — but that should be fine for driver floppy images and suchlike.
If you are new to wikis and would like to help out, please read our (small) help section.

MediaWiki has been updated to 1.10.1. If you encounter any problems please report them to me. I have also installed a new CAPTCHA to hopefully keep spam down — although we haven't had any yet, undoubtedly we'll get some in time.
Well this page doesn't seem to be getting updated... if you're just stumbling across this then feel free to dive on in and start adding/editing articles. TheNeil has started adding pages for the machine specs, so use these as a basic template and add any you can!
Set up most of the machine model redirects that I think should be in place.
To get this project off the ground we need to get some basic structure set up for the Wiki. I've started setting up the specifications section with links to what will be each machine's page. Models that can share a specifications page should be redirected (e.g. the Performa 630 page should redirect to the Quadra 630 page etc), so that all needs to be set up. I've also started making a template for the actual specifications page (here) so if anyone wants to keep adding categories to that, or has any suggestions for a better way to do that, then go ahead.
Once we get that finished, and a similar setup for the other sections (Peripherals, Upgrades etc) then we can start adding data in about all the machines and go from there.
